2009 Dinner -- updated February 22, 2009 Due to bad weather or a lack of ramps, some dinners have been canceled or had date changes in the past. So please contact them if you are traveling a long distance. Whitetop Mountain Ramp Festival, Whitetop, VA May 17. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mount Rogers Volunteer Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad, located on Rt. 58. On the Rooftop of Virginia the Whitetop Mountain Ramp Festival provides a unique experience and fun filled day for the entire family. This festival offers authentic mountain Arts and Crafts and Old Time and Bluegrass Mountain music provided by the best fiddlers and pickers in the region. The highlight of the day is the Ramp Eating Contest. For those who want just a taste of ramps, a BBQ chicken dinner is offered with fried potatoes and ramps. The Ramp Eating Contest begins at 5 pm. The ramp is a wild leek that grows in these high mountains. The taste is tart and delicious. The odor is pungent and lasting. A never to be forgotten experience -- as a contest participant or an observer. Always the 3rd Sunday in May! Look for the signs. Festival will be held Rain or Shine! Ya'll come!
