Occasionally, I get reports that various restaurants are serving ramps dishes
while they are in season. If you hear of any, please let me know. Once again,

"During ramp season we put them in soups and as a filling in burritos/enchiladas/quesadillas, but our favorite way to use them is in one of our Seasonal Salsas that we call Ramped-Up Verde. It is based on our House Verde Salsa which is not a traditional verde, but is a cornmeal-roux-based salsa that is medium hot with local wax peppers and the Ramped-Up version has lots of sauteed AND Raw Ramps! We do freeze some ramps for later use, and we also make Pickled Ramps and Ramp Compound Butter which make their way into a variety of nightly specials here and there throughout the year." Michael's on the Hill of Waterbury VT often features pickled ramps on it's spring and summer menus. The chef, Michael, planned on putting a ramp pesto (made from leaves) on the menu but due to lots of rain it will likely just be pickled ramps. Hiawassee River Trout Lodge, 2701 Cabin Drive, Hiawassee GA, will be having their 2nd Annual Ramp'n on the River on April 30, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The menu includes ham, fried taters with ramps, coleslaw, cornbread, tea and moon pies. $8 a plate. There will also be live music, square dancing, a horseshoe competion, clogging, river duck races and a hoedown. Basilica Hudson, 110 South Front Street, Hudson NY, will be having their Ramp Fest on April 30, 2011, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. 10 to 12 chefs will be participating. Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for kids under 12. Click on the link above to order. Vae's Diner in Gassaway WV offers ramps year round. They would love to have you stop in and share your ramp story with them and eat some potatoes, or eggs or even a homemade hamburger with some ramps on top. They are downtown Gassaway just a few doors from Go mart. Bob's hot dogs in Norton WV (a few miles from Elkins just off of Corridor H) advertises with signs that they have ramp hot dogs and ramp dinners lately (April 2010). No reservations will be taken at all. The menu includes ramps, bacon, fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, white beans, cornbread or a roll, pickled eggs and pickled beets. C & S Restaurant, 46 Oakford Ave. in Richwood, WV is supposed to serve ramps in many of their dishes. They serve them cooked in bacon grease, in omelets, as a topping on hamburgers and in salads. The Lodge at Kelly Mountain, Kelly Mountain Rd (33 E) Elkins, WV was featured in the King of Stink documentary. The segment was filmed the same weekend as the Ramp Cook-off and Festival in Elkins. So I assume they still have a ramp menu at that time of year. By the way, if you dine there you will enjoy one of the finest views in West Virginia. (304)-635-0300. If you go to Houson TX, Mark’s American Cuisine has featured ramps on their menu in the past. Jim & Jennie's Campground in Crossnore, NC has had a ramp dinner around the end of May in the past. You will want to come early for this very popular festival, or you may find yourself walking a ways because all the parking spaces in town will be filled. We have a band and you can enter our "Leek Dip Contest" for prizes and bragging rights. Your breath will end up smelling like your dog's, so if your date eats leeks, you better eat some too. I've been trying to find out the names of some big city restaurants that have served ramps in season in the past. Here's what I've found in New York City so far. If you go, be sure to get the phone number from their website and find out when they will have ramps on the menu.
